Day Lightning Gallery - still frames from a Sony TRV-950
Monsoon 2007 - Tucson, AZ - Day Lightning

Having filmed so much day lightning during this last monsoon season, I wanted to see just how good single frame extractions would turn out. Of course this is like cheating. As these shots are actually from individual frames off of a 3CCD Sony TRV-950 (720x480 resolution). But they are impressive and decent enough to use for this purpose.

As it is with such mini DV cameras, we end up with ~ 30 frames per second. The amazing thing about this is that one can slow down time. That is what this is all about. Hence now I can look at lightning buildup and breakdown. It is actually pretty fascinating to see just how it all works in nature.

All images here come from actual real-time footage from a Sony TRV-950 3CCD video camera. Images are for sale via VaderVideo on eBay when applicable. Check to see if they are listed along with many other imagery products.
